Webtoons were born in the early 2000s in the form of amateur cartoons and comics published on internet portals in Korea. But now there are thousands of webtoons translated by fans into many languages, including Turkish. Popular webtoons are read by millions every week, and the reputation of webtoons has begun to surpass Korea. Amateur comics have been replaced by more professional and Quality Comics. And webtoons have become a very fast-growing industry in Korea. In this article, I will explain the relationship between money and webtoons. For some people, talking about money is a taboo. But you also appreciate that money is the key that opens the door to better quality products and services.
"So do these artists make money? If they're winning, How are they winning? What should a webtoon writer or Illustrator do to make more money?"I will try to give as many answers as I can. Four of webtoon writers and illustrators ' sources of income:
1. Money From Webtoon Publishing Portals
A webtoonist in development, if he publishes a weekly series, earns 100 thousand won each week (209 TL at the rate of this day). When he proved himself and gained a large readership, he was likely to earn more than 1 million won per month (2091 Turkish Liras at the rate of this day).
3 portals (Naver, Daum, Nate), which publish the most webtoons, are not small and ordinary companies. And the number of visitors to the webtoon sections is expressed in millions every day. In this case, if they put even the slightest advertising, they make a large amount of money. Webtoon ports also give some of this money to writers and illustrators who have worked for webtoons. Also, some parts of some webtoons are paid.
Webtoonists (or webtoon writers and illustrators) at first stand only (or always) with the payments of these portals. So, " what do these portals pay writers and illustrators based on?"if you say, there are a wide range of rumors about this :D we do not have clear information. But I consider it appropriate to write two or three methods, both because they are common to most rumors and because they make sense. Of course, this will change from the published portal to the portal.
1-I don't know if you noticed, but webtoons are listed according to the days they appeared on the portals where they were published and sorted by the number of reads. For example, a webtoon comes out on Monday, for a week after it comes out (i.e. until a new episode comes out), they note the ranking at the end of each day and reveal a mevla according to its ranking.
2-according to the number of readings and score until the new section appears, a mevla appears. But there are many who say they never care about the score. (I said a lot 2.3 people already on English sites, even if there are very few people curious about this kind of issue, even this figure becomes a lot :D)
2.Money From The Publisher If Webtoon Is Printed
3.Money received in exchange for adaptation to a Film or series
When webtoon is adapted into a series and film, the writer and Illustrator are paid, as well as usually the writer is involved in the production of the film (especially if the writer and Illustrator are separate people, he can even direct). So they have another extra gain.
4.Money From The Sale Of Licensed Products
In addition, webtoon writers and illustrators also advertise products with advertising content (for example: noblesse writers and illustrators promote a newly released Samsung phone. I don't think they'll introduce it for free, at least they gave me a phone gift: D)
